Teleperformance, a global leader in solutions design, business optimization strategies, front-office customer support, and back-office services, has announced that it will commence operations in Trinidad and Tobago, effective April 7th 2022.
Speaking at a media conference held at the Ministry of Trade and Industry on Wednesday 6 April, 2022, Senator the Honourable Paula Gopee-Scoon, Minister of Trade and Industry welcomed the entrance of Teleperformance, one of the world’s largest Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) firms to Trinidad and Tobago. She said, “This entrance is a clear indication that we are providing the right mix of people, policies and incentives that give us a competitive advantage to attract large global industry players. This foreign investment in a work-from-home model is testament to the high quality of Trinidad and Tobago’s digital infrastructure and the Government’s vision, through the Roadmap to Recovery, to attain a digital, more robust economy.”
The company, which is headquartered in France, is considered the largest business process outsourcing (BPO) firm by employee size globally, with approximately 420,000 workers. Trinidad and Tobago is now the 88th country in which Teleperformance has a presence. It intends to take advantage of the talented and qualified human resources available locally utilizing initially, an offsite model in Trinidad and Tobago.
With this new location in T&T, the company aims to position itself as the preferred partner in the support and digital transformation of digital economy players and government agencies around the world. Teleperformance will have a significant impact locally, now and in the near future with 1,000 new employees expected by the end of 2022, and they anticipate as many as 3000 – 4,000 in four years. Those targeted include high school graduates and university students who are seeking entry level work experience and the flexibility of working from home. The initial investment is approximately TT$28 million, and will grow as the company expands. Teleperformance is the third major international investor in Trinidad and Tobago, which is a clear sign of the confidence that such global firms have in our country.
Mr Andrés Bernal, CEO Teleperformance, Middle Americas Region (Colombia, Guyana, Nicaragua, Peru, and Trinidad & Tobago) in his Address indicated that, “The beginning of our operation in Trinidad and Tobago, represents the strategic expansion of Teleperformance in the Caribbean. We cannot be more excited to start operations here. We have sensed business opportunities arising and an incredible talent pool. With this opening we expect to grow along with Trinidadians and Tobagonians and contribute together to the economic development of the country”.
In welcoming the newest BPO investment to T&T, Mr Sekou Alleyne, President InvesTT said, “We are pleased to welcome Teleperformance to our market. This is a significant milestone in the local BPO industry and demonstrates an increasing level of investor confidence in Trinidad and Tobago. We will be providing them with continuous support after their initial set-up and will work closely with them to consider further expansion in the country.”
Trinidad and Tobago has a nascent but growing BPO industry, which consists of a healthy mix of global service providers and domestic players serving markets locally, across the Caribbean and throughout North and Latin America. The domestic BPO sector is fast expanding and the Government, through institutions such as invesTT and initiatives such as the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) regime, has successfully promoted Trinidad and Tobago as a profitable and practical destination for investors, with the objective of creating new jobs and a more diversified and robust economy.
