The Minister of Trade, Investment and Tourism, Senator the Honourable Satyakama Maharaj, formally presented Letters of Appointment to the new Board of Directors of the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards (TTBS). The appointments support the Government’s efforts to strengthen Trinidad and Tobago’s national quality infrastructure standards, testing, certification and other systems that help safeguard consumers, improve business performance and build confidence in locally produced goods and services.

The newly appointed members of the Board of TTBS are as follows:

  1. Prem Nandlal – Chairman
  2. Avion Rayanne Oliver – Vice Chairman
  3. Christine Gildharry – Director
  4. Alisha Mohammed Stephens – Director
  5. Shivanand Moosai – Director
  6. Shawn Philmore Martin – Director
  7. Nassar Hosein – Director
  8. Joy Roma Santo – Director
  9. Imtiaz Hyder Ali – Director

Minister Maharaj highlighted the importance of quality and innovation to sustainable economic development, particularly for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and to Trinidad and Tobago’s global competitiveness. He also outlined the role of quality in the Ministry’s new strategic direction, including stronger institutions and greater market confidence.

For businesses, standards, testing and certification can improve product consistency, reduce technical barriers and support access to regional and international markets. For citizens, a stronger quality system means greater assurance that goods and services meet established safety, quality and performance requirements. This is the practical value of TTBS’s mandate.

Permanent Secretary (Ag.) Ms. Abigail Bynoe emphasised that TTBS must operate within its legislative and regulatory framework and in close coordination with MTTI. She underscored the Board’s responsibility for sound governance, accountability and the prudent use of public resources.

Chairman Mr. Prem Nandlal indicated that the Board is aligned with TTBS’s renewed direction and committed to providing the oversight required to make the Bureau more responsive to the needs of businesses, consumers and regulators.

TTBS continues to advance its role as the country’s trusted national partner for quality, supporting manufacturers, consumers, and regulators as Trinidad and Tobago positions itself for greater competitiveness in regional and international markets.
