While advancing efforts to encourage investment into Trinidad and Tobago, the Government continues to actively explore all available avenues to boost exports by ensuring that T&T’s innovative local products have the opportunity to access international markets, including in China.

Senator the Honourable Paula Gopee-Scoon made this commitment when she officially opened Trinidad and Tobago’s booth at the 6th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, China on November 6, 2023. In her opening remarks at the launch of the T&T Pavilion, Minister Gopee-Scoon commented on Trinidad and Tobago’s long and fruitful relationship with China. She noted that this country was the first in the English-speaking Caribbean to sign on to the Belt and Road Initiative in 2018, a partnership which saw the development of the 144-acre Phoenix Park Industrial Estate. The success of this project, she believes, is a reflection of the dynamic investment climate, stable political environment, highly skilled workforce, attractive incentives, and the security and reliability required for strategic international partnerships.

The Minister also added that Trinidad and Tobago’s presence at the CIIE serves to demonstrate our commitment to finding advantageous opportunities for local businesses to grow beyond our shores.

China’s International Import Expo (CIIE) which was first launched in 2018, welcomed guests from more than 150 countries, regions, and international organizations this year. Trinidad and Tobago has been participating in the event since its inception.

Among the businesses featured in Trinidad and Tobago’s CIIE Pavilion this year are  Angostura Ltd, Trinidad and Tobago Fine Cocoa Company, Chief Brand Products and Karibbean Flavours, Twigs Naturals, and indigenous confectionaries from Tobago.
