As part of its national coordination efforts in preparation for the passage of Hurricane Beryl, which is expected to affect the countries of the Eastern Caribbean on early Monday 01 July, 2024, the Government of Trinidad and Tobago through the Ministry of Trade and Industry has mobilized all Border Agencies to ensure the safe passage of marine vessels, including yachts and other pleasure crafts into Trinidad and Tobago.
Trinidad and Tobago’s location below the Hurricane Belt provides a safe haven for all marine interest that may be affected as a result of the passage of Hurricane Beryl. According to preliminary data on arrivals from the Marine Services Association of Trinidad and Tobago (MSATT) over 100 vessels are enroute to Trinidad and Tobago while some has already safely arrived based on the Global Positioning System (GPS) used by the Association to track vessel positioning on the sea. Accordingly, all Border Agencies including the Divisions of Customs and Excise, Immigration Division and Port Health have been activated to process the arrival of vessels from the Eastern Caribbean seeking shelter and protection from Hurricane Beryl.
During this emergency, Trinidad and Tobago stands in solidarity with its CARICOM brothers and sisters, especially those in the Eastern Caribbean. To reaffirm our commitment to all marine stakeholders attempting to escape the path of Hurricane Beryl, we wish to advise that all customs fees have been temporarily waived as a measure of goodwill.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry will continue to coordinate with all border agencies and other stakeholders including the Marine Services Association of Trinidad and Tobago (MSATT) to monitor the situation.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry wishes all marine stakeholders a safe journey and looks forward to welcoming them to our shores.
