Extension of time – Scrap Metal Dealer’s licence

The Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism (MTTI) wishes to inform the public and in particular, all scrap metal dealers that Cabinet has agreed to an extension of time of all dealer’s licences from October 14, 2025 to October 14, 2026.

This extension, which is the fifth since the reopening of the industry in February 2023, applies to all dealer’s licences previously granted under the Old Metal and Marine Stores Act, Chap 84:07, provided that those dealers have complied with Section 39 of the Scrap Metal Act, 2022.

This extension from October 14, 2025 to October 14, 2026 allows for the continued operations of the scrap metal industry in Trinidad and Tobago and is intended to protect jobs and livelihoods of thousands of persons linked directly and indirectly to the industry. Additionally, this extension provides added time to scrap metal dealers to comply with the legislative requirements of the Scrap Metal Act, 2022.

The MTTI remains committed to supporting the sector during this transitionary period, while at the same time ensuring that full compliance with the Act and Regulations remains the ultimate objective.
