As part of its mandate to ensure fair pricing in the marketplace, the Consumer Affairs Division of the Ministry of Trade and Industry has been monitoring the prices of items at supermarkets in Trinidad and Tobago During the period 12th to 27th October 2020, the Consumer Affairs Division (CAD) conducted a retail price survey using two methods, site visits and electronic communications, for one hundred and twenty – seven (127) selected items across thirty-eight (38) supermarkets in twenty (20) areas in Trinidad. An additional survey was conducted by the Consumer Affairs Unit (CAU) of three (3) supermarkets in Tobago. The selected products, which impact consumers across all income groups, were derived from a Basket of Goods Survey which was updated by the CAD in 2019 and is used to monitor prices on a monthly basis.
