Please be advised that the criteria for the granting of an Import Licence in respect of used right hand drive private motor vehicles (sedans, station wagons and Sports Utility Vehicles) is amended effective 01 January 2021.
The Trade Licence Unit (TLU) of the Ministry of Trade and Industry therefore wishes to inform all Registered Foreign Used Car Dealers, Individual Importers and other stakeholders that from 01 January 2021, the age of used right hand drive private motor vehicles (sedans, station wagons and Sports Utility Vehicles) being imported pursuant to an Import Licence must not exceed three (3) years from the year of manufacture.
It is advised that:
- from 01 January 2021, applications for Import Licences will not be approved by the TLU for used right hand drive private motor vehicles (sedans, station wagons and Sports Utility Vehicles) that are more than three years old from the year of manufacture. This measure will apply even though those motor vehicles may have been shipped prior to 31 December 2020;
- the expiry date of all Import Licences issued in 2020 shall be 31 December 2020; and
- the TLU shall not be revalidating Import Licences issued in 2020 to a date in 2021 for used right hand drive private motor vehicles (sedans, station wagons and Sports Utility Vehicles) arriving after 31 December 2020
