Senator the Honourable Paula Gopee-Scoon, Minister of Trade and Industry, extended congratulations to 79 graduates of the Ministry of Sport and Community Development’s Boss Lady Project. Delivering remarks at the graduation ceremony on Thursday (December 5), the Minister applauded the “Boss Ladies” for “staying the course and investing in their personal and professional development, working to become phenomenal versions of themselves.” She also urged the graduates to leverage technology, and the networking and mentorship opportunities offered through available Government programmes.
The 10-week Boss Lady Project has provided participants with valuable skills in the areas of décor and event management, basic costume design, makeup and beauty, across communities in Moruga, Bon Air, Tunapuna, Morvant, Port of Spain and Tobago. It has also helped to position the budding entrepreneurs to join the Trinidad and Tobago She Trades Hub spearheaded by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, reflecting a shared commitment to empowering and advancing women in business and entrepreneurship across Trinidad and Tobago.
The She Trades Hub, which is an initiative of the International Trade Centre (ITC), is an online platform of over 700 women involved in many different sectors, such as food and beverage, health and wellness, arts and crafts, fashion, jewellery, education services and beauty. The platform’s main purpose is to increase the number of women-owned businesses trading internationally. It also provides the perfect opportunity for building important networks and mentorship.
Minister Gopee-Scoon praised the success of the Boss Lady Project and acknowledged the Honourable Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis, Minister of Sport and Community Development, and her team for delivering the comprehensive Boss Lady programme.
“This programme has been remarkably impactful as it has not only imparted business and entrepreneurial skills… but also life and personal skills necessary for participants to thrive as women in business,” she said.
Delivering the feature address, Minister Cudjoe-Lewis expressed gratitude for the success of the programme stating that the project was geared toward equipping and empowering women, building confidence, upskilling and contributing to greater independence.
The graduation followed the Boss Lady Entrepreneurial Symposium with She Trades, marking the final session of the Boss Lady Project held on Wednesday, December 4.
