The Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism today welcomed His Excellency Jon Dean, High Commissioner for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, who paid a courtesy call to the Ministry’s head office in Port of Spain.
High Commissioner Dean, accompanied by Ms. Chinali Patel, Head of Political, Economic and Press Affairs at the High Commission, was received by Senator the Honourable Satyakama Maharaj, Minister of Trade, Investment and Tourism, along with Dr. the Honourable Colin Neil Gosine, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry, and Mr. Randall Karim, Permanent Secretary (Ag.).
The meeting featured cordial discussions on a wide range of areas, including bilateral trade, investment cooperation, public/private sector partnerships, and avenues for trade partnerships to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) between Trinidad and Tobago and the United Kingdom.
High Commissioner Dean congratulated Minister Maharaj on his appointment, and expressed his enthusiasm for working with the Ministry’s new leadership. He also underscored the importance of deepening the long-standing and mutually beneficial trade relationship between both nations.
Minister Maharaj echoed these sentiments, reaffirming Trinidad and Tobago’s openness to business and the Ministry’s commitment to diversifying the national economy beyond oil and gas.
Today’s engagement served as a reaffirmation of the strong partnership between the two countries, and as an opportunity to explore avenues for cooperation in support of sustainable economic growth and diversification.
The Ministry remains committed to strengthening international partnerships that drive investment, support economic diversification, and align with Trinidad and Tobago’s national development agenda.
