Senator the Honourable Satyakama Maharaj, Minister of Trade, Investment and Tourism, today provided an update on Trinidad and Tobago’s continued corporate support to Jamaica following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.
Guided by the efforts of the interministerial committee established by Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC to coordinate national relief efforts, Trinidad and Tobago’s public and private sectors have sustained strong momentum in mobilising assistance. To date, the ongoing national relief drive has reached a total value of TT$8,310,973.07 in goods, services, and financial contributions. This reflects continued engagement from the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers’ Association (TTMA), the Supermarkets Association, civil society organisations, and the wider corporate community.
There were two humanitarian shipments, dispatched between October and November 2025. The 12 containers included bottled water, food and cooking supplies, hygiene and sanitary products, cleaning materials, mattresses, and building materials, with a total value of TTD 7,910,973.07. A third shipment of 7 containers valued at over TTD 400,000.00, was sent in December with personal hygiene items, non-perishable food supplies, baby supplies, furniture and mattresses, first-aid kits, clothing, and additional cleaning products. Resulting in a cumulative value of TT$8,310,973.07.
Minister Maharaj commended the sustained national effort:
“The generosity of our people and our country’s private sector partners continues to reflect the enduring strength of Caribbean unity. Jamaica holds a vital place within CARICOM and within Trinidad and Tobago’s own vision for regional progress. Our nation remains steadfast in its commitment to stand by Jamaica throughout its recovery, for as long as our support is needed.”
The Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism continues to coordinate with corporate stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of supplies and logistical support.
