As the United Kingdom departs the European Union later today, the Ministry of Trade and Industry wishes to advise that Trinidad and Tobago will continue to have access to the UK market under the CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) until December 31 2020. During the eleven month “transition period” ending December 31 2020 outlined in the UK-EU Withdrawal Agreement, the Government will continue to work on the necessary legislation to ensure that the trading relationship between Trinidad and Tobago and the United Kingdom is maintained thereafter. During this period the UK will continue to be treated as an EU Member State for the purposes of the EU International Agreement. These conditions are important for local businesses as it offers a level of certainty during a period of complex transition.
