TOURISM ADVISORY UNIT
This unit spearheads the formulation of tourism policies, sub-policies, protocols, and guidelines that support the sustainable development and competitiveness of the national tourism sector. In doing so, it collaborates with key stakeholders, state agencies, and other Ministries to ensure that tourism-related considerations are integrated across all areas of national policy development. The Unit prepares technical briefs, position papers, and concept notes, and provides informed policy advice to the Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism, as well as other Ministries, departments, agencies, and regional and international bodies. It actively represents the Ministry on Cabinet-appointed committees, task forces, ad-hoc working groups, and contributes technical input through reports and feedback mechanisms.
In addition to its core policy work, the Unit coordinates and implements initiatives such as the UN Tourism Best Tourism Village programme, and the Caribbean Tourism Month celebrated under the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO). It also engages in capacity-building workshops within communities and responds to ad-hoc requests such as supporting academic research, delivering presentations to visiting delegations and schools, and evaluating tenders and internal documents. The Unit also maintains active engagement with international and regional tourism partners such as UN Tourism, WTTC, OAS, CTO, ACS, and ensuring that the country’s tourism agenda remains aligned with global trends and best practices.
