September 18, 2018:- The Government of Trinidad and Tobago has offered the motor racing fraternity of the Trinidad and Tobago Automobile Sports Association (TTASA) a permanent home at the Tamana InTech Park, Wallerfield.
On Tuesday 18 September, 2018, officials of TTASA met with Senator the Honourable Paula Gopee-Scoon, Minister of Trade and Industry, the Honourable Shamfa Cudjoe, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs and officials of both Ministries and eTecK at the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.
All parties recognized that construction of the Alutech alloy wheels manufacturing facility will commence on October 1st, 2018 and all parties have noted the need for the facility and racing activities to coexist. TTASA have received a three month extension for motor racing activities until December 31st, subject to terms and conditions that must be satisfied with eTecK.
A survey is currently being conducted which will guide the necessary allocation of an adequate buffer to the Alutech facility and the possible extension of lands to accommodate both drag and circuit racing. Long term lease arrangements would be subject to a CEC approval and the necessary insurance arrangements must be in place. The TTASA is expected to supply within two weeks, a strategic plan for the motor racing industry to the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.
With a permanent place for racing now being offered, the talk about the location at Waterloo is now off the table and this has been agreed by all parties.
