Government committed to developing the animation sector

July 19, 2019: – As the Government of Trinidad and Tobago continues to expand and develop the local animation sector, Senator the Honourable Paula Gopee-Scoon, Minister of Trade and Industry recently met with international animation specialist, Ms. Joan Vogelesang at the Ministry’s Head Office, Port of Spain. Ms. Vogelesang is an International Animation Consultant and former Chief Executive Officer of Toon Boom, an international animation technology company based in Canada.

Minister Gopee-Scoon reiterated the Government’s commitment to building capacity and developing the animation industry in Trinidad and Tobago. Noting the economic opportunities of the US$222 billion dollar global Animation Industry for Trinidad and Tobago, Ms. Vogelesang lauded the efforts of the Government to develop an Animation, Game and Music Technology Outsourcing Hub at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT).

This facility will position Trinidad and Tobago as a viable source for outsourced animation work from international animation production companies with corresponding benefits to the national economy through indigenous creative and technical talents.

Ms. Vogelesang has been a significant supporter of efforts to develop the local Animation Industry with strategic linkages to the Animae Caribe Animation and Digital Media Festival. She has received several international awards for her contribution to the global Animation Industry.
