The Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism (MTTI) hosted the Buy Local, Build Trinbago Market Experience in Mayaro, in partnership with S&S Persad Supermarket, on Saturday 8th August, 2026. The event brought together agro-producers, manufacturers, service providers and public sector representatives, affording businesses an opportunity to showcase their products, connect directly with consumers and engage with Ministry agencies that provide support, resources and opportunities to facilitate business growth and development.
Addressing attendees, Senator the Honourable Satyakama Maharaj, Minister of Trade, Investment and Tourism said buying local is an investment in Trinidad and Tobago’s people and economy.
“Every time we purchase a locally made product, we are investing in our own people. We are helping businesses grow, strengthening local supply chains and keeping more value within our economy.”
The Minister highlighted the importance of local enterprise development to the Government’s economic diversification agenda, noting that a strong business community contributes to employment, innovation, investment and local development.
Senator Maharaj reminded patrons, “Behind every local product placed on these shelves is a story of economic resilience, perseverance and passion—a family that dared to dream, an entrepreneur who refused to give up or a business that soared through challenges to serve their customers.”
He described Mayaro as an important tourism and economic asset, citing its agricultural heritage, entrepreneurial spirit, natural beauty and strong sense of community.
The Buy Local, Build Trinbago initiative forms part of MTTI’s efforts to improve market access for local businesses, promote local products and strengthen connections between producers and consumers. The Minister encouraged residents and visitors to support participating businesses and make buying local part of their everyday choices. “Economic transformation begins at home. Let us continue to Buy Local and Build Trinbago.”
