Senator the Honourable Paula Gopee-Scoon, Minister of Trade and Industry, met with Mr. Allan Ferguson, President of the Trinidad and Tobago Scrap Iron Dealers’ Association (TTSIDA) on December 3, 2024 at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Port of Spain to discuss various matters within the Scrap Metal Industry.
Also present at the meeting were Mr. Randall Karim, Permanent Secretary (Ag.) and other officials of the Ministry, along with Mr. Erros Seejattan, Vice President of the TTSIDA and other representatives.
Discussions were held on the operations and inspections of scrap metal sites throughout Trinidad and Tobago and administrative issues regarding scrap metal dealers and collectors’ licences. Also discussed were preparations for proclamation of the remaining Section 3(1) of the Scrap Metal Act 2022, which governs the licencing of scrap metal collectors, as communicated in the Ministry’s Public Advisory dated July 25, 2024.
The TTSIDA and MTI committed to continuing the collaboration on the above issues to ensure the efficient implementation of the new scrap metal regime.
