MTI issues public notice on scrap metal dealers’ licences, extending time for compliance

The Ministry of Trade and Industry wishes to inform the public and in particular, all scrap metal dealers, that the Scrap Metal (Extension of Time) Order, 2024 extends all dealer’s licences from August 15, 2024 to February 14, 2025.

Valid licences previously granted under the Old Metal and Marine Stores Act, Chap 84:07 are considered scrap metal dealers’ licences provided that the dealer complies with Section 39 of the Scrap Metal Act, 2022.

This extension will be the fourth since the reopening of the industry in February 2023 to allow existing dealers sufficient time to comply with the new legislative requirements. Scrap metal dealers are advised to urgently submit their completed applications to the Trade Licence Unit within the extended time period as the Government intends to have the industry properly regulated.
