A Trinidad and Tobago delegation, led by Senator the Honourable Paula Gopee-Scoon, Minister of Trade and Industry is participating in the 13th China – Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) Business Summit from December 9th – 11th, 2019 in Panama.  The Summit was initiated in 2007 by the Chinese Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) which has a remit inter alia to promote foreign trade, bilateral investment and economic and technological cooperation. It is largely recognized as a flagship initiative that encourages cooperation between China and Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Minister of Trade and Industry and the Trinidad and Tobago delegation, comprising of representatives from the Ministry of Trade and Industry, InvesTT Limited and ExporTT Limited will meet with several public and private institutions to advance Trinidad and Tobago trade and investment interests.  The Trade Minister will similarly also engage Latin American and Caribbean counterparts. Trinidad and Tobago’s participation in the event underscores the Government’s commitment to pursuing enhanced bilateral trade and investment relations with China and Latin America and Caribbean countries.

This year’s Summit is hosted by the Government of Panama and organized by the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Panama, the Chinese Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), the Tourism Authority of Panama, the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
