Senator the Honourable Paula Gopee-Scoon, Minister of Trade and Industry, received a courtesy call from His Excellency Dr. Pradeep Singh Rajpurohit, India’s High Commissioner to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, today, Wednesday 3 January, 2024 at the Ministry of Trade and Industry’s Head Office, Port of Spain.

The meeting facilitated the introduction of High Commissioner Rajpurohit, who presented Credentials to Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo, O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, on October 10, 2023.

Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon warmly welcomed the High Commissioner and noted the close cultural ties and positive trade and investment relations shared by both countries since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1962. The Minister further emphasised the importance of maintaining and deepening the relationship between Trinidad and Tobago and India.

Both parties agreed that although their respective countries share a close bond in the areas of sport and culture there is room for further collaboration in the areas of trade and investment. Also discussed were the possibility of the formation of a TT-India Business Council, the advancement of a Bilateral Investment Treaty and future investment missions with the aim of strengthening commercial relations between both countries.

Also in attendance at the meeting were Mr. Raju Sharma, Counsellor at the High Commission of India, Mr. Randall Karim, Permanent Secretary (Ag.) of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and other Officials from the Ministry.
