Senator the Honourable Paula Gopee-Scoon distributed Lutterloh Sewing System kits to 50 seamstresses/ tailors and dressmakers during a brief ceremony held on Thursday 28 September, 2023 at the Jimmy Aboud Building, Port of Spain.
Addressing the recipients, Gopee-Scoon recalled being very impressed with the pattern-making system demonstrated by Frank Lutterloh, President of Fashion Unlimited Inc. during her visit to the Jimmy Aboud pattern-making sewing workshop in March 2023. She said, “I thought if you all could have one of these it would be very helpful. You could find yourself sharpening your skills, doing patternmaking or sewing from your home for your families or for others. I saw the economic advantage in you having these sewing kits.”
The Lutterloh Sewing System technique was developed by the grandmother of Frank Lutterloh in Germany in 1935 and has become quite popular globally. The method is used to create simple and effective patterns for all sizes and body types and has been successfully adopted in more than 17 countries including in Central and South America and the Caribbean.
Upon receiving the kits, valued at $950 each and complete with 280 designs, instructions and drafting tools, several recipients expressed gratitude and pronounced a resounding “yes” to the expectation that they would be put to good use.
Growing the fashion industry continues to be a priority within the country’s diversification agenda and as such, the Government, through the Ministry of Trade and Industry, continues to support the industry through many programmes and initiatives led by the Trinidad and Tobago Fashion Company Ltd. (Fashion TT).
Also participating in the distribution ceremony were Lisa-Marie Daniel, General Manager of Fashion TT and Gregory Aboud, President of the Downtown Owners and Merchants Association.
