June 14 2019: – As Trinidad and Tobago continues to build the technical capacity of its trade professionals, technocrats of the Ministry of Trade and Industry and officials from the Customs and Excise Division, Ministry of Finance, were beneficiaries of a one (1) day training session facilitated by Mr. Xiaobing Tang, World Trade Organization (WTO) Counsellor on Thursday 13 June, 2019.

The session sought to enhance the participants’ understanding of the World Trade Organization’s rules and procedures as they relate to market access, customs issues, tariff negotiations and new and emerging issues of interest to Trinidad and Tobago. The session is an initiative of the two-month WTO Regional Trade Policy Course (RTPC) currently taking place at the University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the WTO.

The training session is the first in a series of such capacity building initiatives to be delivered by WTO Counsellors over the three year period 2019 – 2021 during which time Trinidad and Tobago will continue to host the RTPC.
